Pueblos Blancos — The White Villages

Pueblos Blancos — The White Villages

Scattered across the green hills, the white villages sit like sugar cubes in the landscape. Setenil de las Bodegas is the most extraordinary: here houses are literally built into and beneath the rock face, a living testament to centuries of ingenuity. Zahara de la Sierra, crowned by a Moorish castle, is reflected in an emerald reservoir. In Grazalema you can taste the famous Payoya goat cheese with a glass of local wine. And Olvera's white silhouette, dominated by a Gothic church, stands sharp against the azure sky.

Sierra de Grazalema & Sierra de las Nieves

Two UNESCO Biosphere Reserves embrace the finca like a green sanctuary. The Sierra de Grazalema, the rainiest point in Spain, shelters the rare pinsapo fir forest — a relic from the Tertiary period found nowhere else on earth. Walk into the Garganta Verde, an emerald gorge where griffon vultures circle overhead. In the Sierra de las Nieves, Spanish ibex dart between the rocks. The silence here is deafening — only the wind, the water and the call of birds of prey.

Caminito del Rey

Once called 'the most dangerous walkway in the world', the Caminito del Rey is today a spectacularly restored 7.7-kilometre trail. The walkways hang at a hundred metres high against the vertical walls of the Gaitanes gorge, above a narrow ribbon of turquoise water. Every step offers a new perspective on the overwhelming power of nature. An experience you will not forget — and for which you'll want to set out early in the morning, when the golden light warms the rock face.

Ronda — City on the Gorge

Just fifteen minutes away, one of Spain's most breathtaking cities reveals itself. The Puente Nuevo spans the 120-metre-deep El Tajo gorge — at sunset the bridge turns to gold and the depth seems infinite. Wander through the Moorish old town, the Ciudad, where narrow streets carry the scent of jasmine and orange blossom. Visit the Plaza de Toros, one of the oldest bullrings in Spain. And dine at Bardal (two Michelin stars), where chef Benito Gómez brings the Serranía to your plate, or at the vibrant Tragatá and the atmospheric Tropicana perched above the ravine.

Ronda Wine Region

Winemaking around Ronda is experiencing a renaissance that has connoisseurs enthralled. At 700 metres altitude, where cool nights and warm days create a unique microclimate, grapes ripen with an intensity that lowland wines cannot match. Visit Bodega Descalzos Viejos, housed in a sixteenth-century monastery where the monks already made wine, and taste their biodynamic creations in the centuries-old cellar. The combination of altitude, limestone soil and passion produces wines that are Spain's best-kept secret.

Costa del Sol & Beyond

The Mediterranean lies less than an hour's drive away. But the real adventure begins beyond the coastline. Málaga, birthplace of Picasso, surprises with the Centre Pompidou and its revitalised harbour district. Gibraltar offers a surreal blend of British pubs and Barbary macaques. And from Tarifa, the southernmost point of continental Europe, you take the ferry to Morocco — Africa in just 35 minutes. Seville, with its flamenco and Alcázar, is two hours away. This is the perfect base for exploration.
